Every few weeks, my sister will update us on the status of Kanye West AKA Yeezy. Here’s the first installment…
Kanye West’s foot has been firmly planted in his mouth for much of 2015 thus far, so
it’s been easy to forget he’s still making and performing music. West will be a
headlining act for this year’s Glastonbury Festival, announced yesterday’s tweet
from the festival’s official Twitter account.
West is the first hip hop artist in seven years to headline the English festival, and his
impending performance has already sparked a petition to get rid of him. This isn’t
the first time a rapper has caused contention among Glastonbury fans: Jay-Z drew
criticism from the masses when he headlined in 2008, including from Britpop’s
perma-jerk Noel Gallagher, who deemed the idea of hip hop at Glastonbury “wrong.”
Regardless, Ye is guaranteed to give festival attendees a show they won’t forget. He’s
known for bringing a distinctive and sometimes ominous presence to the stage,
recently brilliantly showcased by his performance at the BRIT Awards last month.
I’m looking forward to a set that includes some old standards (“Jesus Walks” is a
personal favorite), as well as some of his new work with Paul McCartney (“Only
One” is a tearjerker).
Tickets are now sold out, but you can find out more about this year’s Glastonbury
Festival on their website.
