Screenwriter and director Sarah Polley has signed on to adapt Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, Little Women, alongside Sony’s Amy Pascal (yes, that Amy Pascal). Polley doesn’t yet have a deal to direct the film, but will make a decision upon finishing the script. Along with Pascal, Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord will join to produce the film, making the film the rare project to have three female producers as well as a female screenwriter.
The news of this production comes on the heels of a number of female-written, female-produced and female-performed work, including Paul Feig’s new Ghostbusters reboot with an all female cast and Diablo Cody’s rewrite of the Barbie movie.
Sarah Polley is best known for Take This Waltz and her autobiographical documentary, Stories We Tell (watch it on Netflix!).
Also, if there’s a better choice for young Amy March than Kiernan Shipka, who is it? She’s so perfect for this role. Look at her!
